Designer Biography

Educated at ANU, (BA) Leeds Metropolitan University, (B Fine Arts) HK Polytechnic Uni (Research) and Adelaide University. (Business Enterprise) Casey is a theatre designer, visual artist, (Icons from the Red Chamber HK Arts Centre, Parodies of Utopia -Chinese University) cultural researcher (Renegotiating the Role of the Scenographer in Hong Kong HK Polytechnic University) and educator (CPA 1978-1985, Senior Lecturer in Applied Arts at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing 1989-1997) Casey's introduction to theatre design began with the Stage Company in the 70's-80's, (The Ballard of Billy Lane, On Our Selection , The Death of Danko, The Death of George Reeves and Julia Britton's Miles Franklin and the Rainbows End - San Antonio Festival Texas) His designs for State Opera of SA included Britten's Noye's Fludde Performing Arts Collection Acquisition. He was appointed Designer in residence with Harvest Theatre Company from 1984-9 touring throughout Australia works including Facey's A Fortunate Life, Archer's Songs from Sideshow Alley Williamson's The Perfectionist, The Government Inspector, and Gulls. Casey free-lance design work throughout South East Asia includes Servant of Two Masters HK Repertory, Medea, Contemporary Legend Theatre Co, and Taiwan for Singapore Festival, Mandala, Tai Gu Tales Dance Taiwan National Theatre,The Lament of Sim Kin Benny Cia/ Kai Tai Chan HK Fringe, Die Fledermaus HKAPA (costume designs in Chris Patton collection) and HK Handover Rave in 1997. Awarded Designer of the Year 1992 for Don Juan by HK

Association of Drama Societies and by the Design Institute of Australia for his Centenary of Federation design of Eva Sallis's AlieNation in 2001. Casey toured Romeril's Carboni to Urbino Italy and Australia in 2002. His designs include Dark Paths,Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Vigil, Under Milk wood, Julius Caesar, Arabian Night, Innonce, Trojan Barbie and the immersive Windmill theatre project The Story Thieves. Casey coordinated th e Vanuatu National Museum interior redesign project and exhibited at the first World Stage Design 2005 in Toronto. His designs for Undermilkwood was selected for exhibition at the Seoul World Stage Design in 2009. Casey was awarded an Asialink residency to work alongside Teamwork in New Delhi in 2008 where he re-designed Bollywood Love story- The Musical. Since 2009 Casey has moved toward playing the role of Animateaur on works that include Sunil, Undernights Blanket, The Q Map and the major quartet of works in progress Lake's Angel. He is an individual member of International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians.
