Designer Biography
Despina Zacharopoulou is an artist born in Arcadia, Greece. She studied Architecture and Fine Arts on a master level, before going to Antwerp to pursue a Masters Degree in Theater Costume (2013). Parallel to her master project she was a Costume Designer Assistant at Troubleyn/Jan Fabre for the production "Tragedy of a Friendship". Her artistic research, combines different disciplines: costume/fashion design,
architecture, fine arts and performance, usually with a particular interest for symbols and mysticism. Her final project for the MA in Theater Costume at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts was a performance for four dancers entitled "COINCIDENTIA OPPOSITORUM" investigating the symbol of the Androgyne as a state of the Reconciliation of the Opposites. This project was completed after the financial support of the Greek State Scholarships Foundation, it won the Lon Londau prize and was nominated for the Horlait Dapsens prize. All costumes were also presented at the 'Van een Bruisende Campus waar de Kunsten Welig Tieren' exhibition (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium, curator: AMVK).
