Designer Biography

Stage designer, costume designer. A graduate of the Higher School of Music and Visual Arts in Graz (Austria) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. She has designed sets and costumes for numerous theatre and opera productions in Poland and abroad. She was the stage designer for Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Styrian Autumn Festival, Ibsen's Nora at the Schauspiel Leipzig, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet at the Theaterhaus Bremen, Molnár's Liliom at the Theaterhaus Jena, Jon Fosse's Night Sings Its Songs at the Schauspiel Leipzig, Hofmannsthal's Electra at the Theater Magdeburg, Biljana Srbljanovič's Family Stories at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, Dea Loher's Bluebeard at the Schiller Theater Berlin, Lotta Van den Berg's Stillen for the Toneelhuis Antwerpen/ Sophiensaele Berlin (co-production), Grillparzer's Medea at the Nationaltheater Weimar, and Maria Kilpi's Windstill at the Gorki Theater Berlin.

In Poland she was the stage designer for the following productions: Risk Everything directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna, Demirski's Wałęsa. Historia wesoła, a ogromnie przez to smutna / Wałęsa. A Funny Story, Which Makes It Incredibly Sad, Racine's Phèdre, Gombrowicz's Operetta directed by Michał Zadara, Molière's Tartuffe and Gombrowicz's Transatlantic directed by Mikołaj Grabowski, and Hłasko's Ósmy dzień tygodnia / Eighth Day of the Week with Armin Petras for the Stary Teatr in Kraków, Bohomolec's Pijacy / The Drunkards directed by Barbara Wysocka, Między nami dobrze jest / We Get Along directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna for Schaubühne Berlin/TR Warszawa (co-production).

! She has worked with Mariusz Treliński since 2007, designing the costumes for his productions: Boris Godunov for the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius and the Polish National Opera, Orfeo ed Euridice for the Slovakian National Theatre in Bratislava and the Polish National Opera, Aleko and Iolanta for the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Turandot and Manon Lescaut for the Polish National Opera. In 2010 the Association of Polish Stage Artists (ZASP) granted Magdalena Musiał the Leon Schiller Award.
