Kate Lane

Designer Biography

Kate Lane is a designer for performance specialised in costume for live performance and is a founding member of the performance collective Brave New Worlds. She has a BA in Visual Arts: Sculpture at the Camberwell College of Arts and she graduated in the MA Costume Design for Performance (Distinction) where she won the MA Centenary Award for Costume. She is now Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins.

Kate is interested in creating moments where the design is the central feature to the performance and her work as been shown both nationally - in the UK, including Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler's Wells, Southbank Centre and V&A, as well as internationally - including Ravenna Festival in Italy and Musique Cordiale in France.

As Designer/ Director of the collective Brave New Worlds, Kate obtained residencies at the Barbican for the Open Lab Programme in the Pit Theatre and at The Point, in Eastleigh, as well as at the Plateau Gallery, in Berlin. Performances include Soho Downstairs, Soho Theatre, London and MK Gallery, Milton Keynes. Her work with Brave New Worlds was selected as part of the UK Exhibit for PQ15 and will be shown to the upcoming V&A Stage Design Exhibition, 2015.
