Lucy Orta b. 1966 in United Kingdom. She studied knitwear fashion design at Nottingham Trent University (1985-89). Since 2002 she is professor of Art and the Environment at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. Jorge Orta b. 1953 in Argentina. He studied simultaneously at the faculty of fine arts (1972-79) and the faculty of architecture (1973-80) of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario. Their studios are situated in Paris and Seine-et-Marne.

Lucy + Jorge Orta collaborative practice draws upon ecological and social sustainability issues and employs a diversity of mediums ranging from drawing, sculpture, installation, couture, painting, silkscreen, photography video and light, as well as staging filmed interventions and performances. Solo exhibitions include: Barbican Art Gallery in London (2005); Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice (2005), the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (2006), and the Galleria Continua in Beijing, San Gimignano, and Le Moulin (2007-8); Biennial of the End of the World, Ushuaia, and the Antarctic Peninsula (2007), and the Hangar Bicocca spazio d'arte in Milan (2008); Natural History Museum, London (2010); MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts Rome (2012); Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2013); Parc de la Villette (2014).
