Camille Assaf

Designer Biography

Camille Assaf has designed costumes for opera, theater, dance and film in the United States and all around the world. Her opera credits include Fidelio at the Santa Fe Opera, Don Giovanni (the Juilliard school), Così fan Tutte (co-pro Juilliard/Metropolitan Opera Lindemann program), and the upcoming Le Nozze di Figaro (Juilliard), all directed by Stephen Wadsworth. Other opera credits include Wolf Trap Opera, Nashville Opera, the Florentine Opera, the Théâtre Municipal de Castres (France). In New York, her costumes have been seen on the stages of New York City Ballet, the Joyce Theater, the Park Avenue Armory, the Mint theater, La Mama. Etc., Ars Nova. She has also designed costumes at the Yale Repertory Theater, Playmakers Rep, Syracuse Stage, Asolo Rep, Two River theater, Great River Shakespeare festival, Shakespeare on the Sound. Internationally, she was part of the costume design team, led by Eiko Ishioka, responsibile fot the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008. She has designed the world premiere of Khmer rock opera Where Elephants Weep in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and of Three Children (Hong Kong Fringe Club). She has also designed costumes for numerous short films and the upcoming feature film Bébé Tigre, directed by Cyprien Vial . Camille holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, and is a recipient of the NEA/TCG career development program. She is a principal design editor of CHANCE MAGAZINE.
