William Ivey Long

Designer Biography

William Ivey Long Six time Tony Award-winning costume designer recently designed On the Twentieth Century and It Shoulda Been You, which are running on Broadway alongside Chicago, now in its 19th year! Other Broadway includes: Cabaret, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (Tony Award), Bullets Over Broadway; The Mystery of Edwin Drood; Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway; Pal Joey, Grey Gardens (Tony Award); The Producers (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Awards); The Boy from Oz and others. Mr. Long recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut with his designs for The Merry Widow starring Renee Fleming and Kelli O'Hara. Recent Off-Broadway productions include The Belle of Amherst with Joely Richardson, Lucky Guy and The School of Lies.

Mr. Long holds honorary degrees from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The University of North Carolina at Asheville, and The College of William and Mary. Mr. Long has been nominated for 14 Tony Awards. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2005, and elected Chairman of The American Theatre Wing in June, 2012.
